POSITIONS AVAILABLE

We are looking to fill many farm positions this year including an assistant farm manager and internships, as well as part-time farm and market help.

ABOUT OUR FARM
Our Farm is a small fourth generation farm located in the Upper Hudson Valley, in Easton, NY. We cultivate 7 acres of vegetables, melons, small fruit, herbs, flowers and bedding plants for three farmer's markets and an expanding CSA. We also care for 200 laying hens, raise 1,000 pastured broilers a year, several hogs, and nearly 15 acres of cover crops. Our produce and animals are grown naturally without the use of harmful chemicals, synthetic fertilizers, hormones or antibiotics. We make our own compost, rotationally graze and use cover crops to improve fertility. The chickens are pastured while there is grazing available and layers are over-wintered in a deep bedded greenhouse used for season extension. The hogs are on pasture during the season and fed farm waste and local grain.

ASSISTANT FARM MANAGER
We are looking for one assistant farm manager. This position would be well suited to someone who has had some farming experience but would like more before venturing out on their own. They should have some basic experience with the following areas: greenhouses, seeding, cultivation, tractor work, tillage, animal care, farm maintenance, marketing, or be willing to work on weak areas. This person must be self-motivated, have good people skills and should be able to work alone or supervise others. The assistant will be in charge of going to at least one market per week and helping to process chickens once a month. Housing is provided either in the farmhouse or in a private rustic camper. Profit-sharing opportunities are available for the right individual, as well as a possible long-term partnership.

INTERN POSITIONS
We are looking for one to two interns for the 2007 season. The individual needs to be able to commit to 5 1/2 days of work a week from May to October. College students are welcome to apply for an abbreviated internship during summer break or during a semester if needed for credit. Work hours vary depending on the daylight and market schedule. The intern will learn greenhouse care, seeding, cultivating, harvesting, marketing, poultry husbandry and general farm maintenance. Responsibilities vary with experience and aptitude, but experiences with all areas of the farm will be available. Interns must be self-motivated, enjoy working long hours outside in variable weather conditions, be able to follow directions, work alone or in a group, be observant and pay attention to detail. In return we can offer housing in the farm house or in a private rustic camper. Cooking is shared by all and we provide most of the ingredients; we are mostly vegetartian but occasionally eat our own chicken and pork. Weekly farm meetings and trips to farmer’s markets, monthly visits to other farms, and access to our farm library will compliment your hands-on education. A stipend is provided based on experience starting at $150 a week for those with minimal experience, and would increase for someone with more experience. The lively City of Saratoga Springs is a 25 minute drive and the quaint Village of Greenwich is an easy one mile bike ride away.

PART TIME HELP
Many people work on the farm part-time, students, teachers, retirees, etc. We need extra help harvesting during the season on Monday mornings, Wednesday mornings, and most of all every Friday for a full day of harvesting for two area markets. Part-timers are paid an hourly wage and some just want produce or meat, there are a few crops like berries where workers get paid piecework (per quart of berries, or pound of beans).

MARKET HELP
We are looking for people persons to work at our two Saturday markets. Two or three people are needed to set up the tent and display before the market begins, keep the stand well stocked, help customers with their selections, share your favorite recipes, take money and make change, keep customers happy and finally break down the stand and load the truck for the trip home. Market helpers are paid an hourly wage and/or farm products depending on which you prefer.
